About Gemma

A warm hello! From the Gemma Wightman Ceramics studio amidst the stunning
countryside of beautiful Surrey in the South of England.

Gemma Wightman Ceramics was founded by Gemma in 2004. Gemma’s combined
love of making and her enterprising nature was born and encouraged from a young
age. At 4yrs old she set up a shop of “crafts” on her garden swing.

She discovered clay at school and then flourished at art college, both Farnham and
Bath Spa college of arts where she spent countless hours mastering the potter’s
wheel under the guidance of master potter Takeshi Yasuda.

She’s always had a keen appetite for making pieces that can be used while being
beautifully quirky, unique and of course exquisitely eye-catching and wonderfully
tactile to use and hold.

Gemma creates exclusively in porcelain, a fine white clay that is high-fired to provide
incredible durability, innocuity, fluidity and a soft touch. It is said that a well-looked
after piece of porcelain can last over 1000 years.

Gemma lives with her two daughters Matilda and Lola alongside Maggie the golden
retriever, Sizzles the sausage dog and Tommy the tortoise in the picturesque Surrey
village of Send Marsh. It is essential to Gemma that each piece she designs and
makes is something that will be used by her family within her own home and have on
their own kitchen table, hence the ‘Approved By Matilda and Lola’ stamp on the base
of each piece.

“I absolutely love designing and then making pieces that can be used in your home,
become a part of your daily routine; the mug your hand is magnetically drawn to for
that delectable first coffee of the day. The timeless cake stand you bring out for
every birthday or cake baking endeavour. Luxurious, quality pieces that are made
with pure joy and skill and imagination, that add a bit of magic to your day, life, and
home.

Thank you for choosing my hand made tableware, I am truly honoured and please know you have brought a happy smile to my face”
